What is RSS?

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is an easy way to be notified of new and changed web content. Notifications of changes to multiple websites are handled easily, and the results are presented to you well organized and distinct from email.

For example, you can now be notified of any new content on this website, as soon as it appears.
This allows you to stay informed about the new ArcelorMittal Projects products, recent applications, updates and all other new items on this website.

The information offered in RSS format is called an RSS feed or an RSS channel.

How do you read RSS feeds?

RSS feeds can be read in three different ways:

  • Desktop readers:
These RSS aggregators are standalone desktop applications, which can be downloaded from the web. Most are free to use. The RSS readers collect the feeds and refresh items each time they are updated. Here are a few examples of free desktop readers:
  • Browsers:
Some browsers offer the possibility to add RSS feeds and to view them in the browser.
Firefox is an example of such a browser.

  • Online readers:
On special websites one can, after registration, compose a personalized news site by means of RSS feeds. Unlike desktop news readers, nothing has to be installed on your computer and online aggregators can be accessed from anywhere, meaning you can take your feeds with you.

Examples of popular free web-based RSS readers are:
